Classification
Cossington is a co-educational Church of England (Controlled) Primary School, opened in 1873. At present the planned admission number each year is fifteen. The number on roll is 103.
The school is situated in Cossington, a small residential village about six miles north of Leicester. Children from the village attend the school as do many children from the edge of Sileby.
Children start main school at 4+ in September, and transfer to Humphrey Perkins School in Barrow upon Soar or Rawlins Academy, Quorn, at the age of eleven years.
The school had a good OFSTED report in December 2013, which can be found on the school website.
The school has two parts, the brick main building off Main Street, where there are offices, staff room, kitchen and library as well as Class 1 and Class 2.
Two new classrooms, resource centre and the main hall are located next to our lovely field and playground.
The 4+, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils have two classrooms in the main building. Both classes have one teacher and one teaching assistant. In Key Stage 2, each class have one full time equivalent teacher and one additional part time teacher, to enable flexibility in the size and ability of groups.
Each child is taught individually throughout the school and a great emphasis is made on the continuity of learning from class to class, so that a child's transition from one teacher to the next is as smooth as possible.
